This study investigates the dynamics of international trade with a focus on Uganda, highlighting the intricate interplay between trade volumes, tariff rate changes, foreign direct investments (FDI) inflows, export values and import destinations over time. Drawing on comprehensive analysis and econometric techniques, the research offers valuable insights into the factors influencing Uganda’s trade patterns. The analysis of trade volumes reveals a consistent and noteworthy upward trend over the years, underscoring Uganda’s growing participation in the global marketplace. Importantly, changes in tariff rates are identified as a significant determinant of shifts in trade pattern. The study demonstrates that shifts in tariff policies have had a discernible impact on trade dynamics, fostering adaptation and evolution within the international trade framework. Furthermore, the research identifies a robust and positive relationship between FDI inflows and trade volumes. The study’s findings emphasize the instrumental role of FDI in augmenting trade activities, enhancing market access, and driving economic growth in Uganda. Regarding exports and imports, the study unveils that trade destinations matter significantly. Export values exhibit distinct relationships with various export destinations, reflecting the diversification of Uganda’s export portfolio. Similarly, the study reveals that import origins play a pivotal role in shaping import patterns, as Uganda strategically sources goods and services from a variety of global partners. In summary, this research illuminates the intricate dynamics of Uganda’s international trade landscape. It underscores the multifaceted impact of tariff rate changes, the symbiotic relationship between FDI and trade volumes, and the importance of trade destination choices in driving the nation’s trade growth. These findings offer actionable insights for policy makers, trade practitioners, and investors aiming to navigate and harness Uganda’s evolving trade opportunitiesen_US
