Contribution of informal diction in Luganda of songs about success
Abstract
In this dissertation, I discuss the effectiveness and contribution of the application of informal diction in Luganda songs about success. I point out informal structures and show they help in developing meaning towards the intended message. The researcher took interest in the study of informal diction as it is one of the most interesting elements of literature and a backbone of other literary elements such as imagery, personification, symbolism etcetera.
However, limited effort has been put in the study of informal diction in songs at large. The study found out that informal diction is key in effective communication as it may help in depicting the character of the speaker and that of the audience, tell the relationship between the speaker and the audience, motive of the persona among others. I therefore, recommend that education institutions put more emphasis on informal diction as they teach learners and they exploit various contributions it makes to the communication process.
