Comparative analysis of the life cycle cost of different roofing systems.

Abstract

This research aimed to provide a comparative analysis of the life cycle costs of three different roofing systems with different roof coverings including iron sheets, clay tiles and grass thatch with the objectives to develop a prototype of different roofing systems, determining the initial capital and running costs, comparing the LCC of these roofing systems and thereafter develop a predictive tool for the LCC analysis of the different roofing systems. The study considered the economic, environmental, and social costs associated with each type of roofing system over their entire Life cycle. The research involved conducting a Literature review, analyzing data from case studies and utilizing life cycle assessment tools to evaluate the costs and benefits of each roofing system and its covering material. The significance of this study is that it will be useful for architects, builders, and homeowners to make informed decisions when selecting a roofing system that meets their needs while considering the economic environmental, and social implications to be used in building construction projects based on maintenance cost economy as a whole.
