Assessing space utilisation and passenger experience in Kampala new taxi park
Abstract
The study was about assessing space utilization and passenger experience in Kampala New Taxi
park. The objectives of the study were to find out the location and state of Kampala New taxi park,
to assess the utilization of space in Kampala New taxi park, to evaluate passenger experience in
Kampala New Taxi park and to propose recommendations for proper space utilization and for
improvement of passenger experience in Kampala New Taxi park.
From the mentioned objectives, research questions were formulated to know how the objectives
were to be achieved. These included questions like what is the location and state of Kampala New
taxi park, how is space utilized in Kampala New taxi park, what is the passenger experience in
Kampala new taxi park and what are the recommendations for proper space utilization and for
improvement of passenger experience in Kampala New taxi park.
The methods used to collect data in field included oral interviews, direct observation,
questionnaires, recording and sketching. From the data collected from the field, space has been
efficiently utilized in Kampala New taxi park. However, there are some facilities missing and those
not enough for the park users. For passenger experience, 80% of passengers said their experience
is good because of the good conditions like presence of lights, tarmacked surface while 20% said
their experience is poor due to the poor conditions and state of the park.
From the above data collected and findings, the researcher came up with various recommendations
to ensure proper space utilization and improve passenger experience. This included providing seats
and shade at the waiting places, installation of cameras and putting of fire extinguishers for safety
of passengers and improvement on the enforcement strategies to ensure that the laws are followed
by taxi park users.
