| dc.description.abstract | This report provides details of the research study on Roadside Taxi Stages and their resulting impact on Traffic flow. It has been broken down into four chapters whereby; -
Chapter one describes the nature of the paratransit system in Kampala, specifically the taxis. It also describes the organic formation of roadside stages.
Chapter two reviews all scholarly knowledge in relation to taxi operations, management, and regulation. This knowledge was taken from other sources and each source has been clearly cited. This clearly shows the findings of other researchers and reveals the knowledge gap in relation to the roadside taxi stages.
Chapter three presents the different methods and instruments that the researcher used to collect data. These include; Questionnaire Administration, Interview Method, Observation, Participant Observation, Mapping, Qualitative GIS and Secondary Data Sourcing.
Chapter four presents an elaborate description of the findings obtained from the study. This includes data obtained from interviews with the KCCA Physical Planner, Taxi Touts, Stage guides and passengers. Questionnaires administered to passengers were analyzed using SPSS and tabulated, these tables were exported to Microsoft Excel to create charts and graphs for a more graphical yet elaborate presentation of the research findings.
Chapter five presents the recommendations and conclusion of the research study. It shows the proposed road side taxi stage design. There are two proposals for the design of roadside taxi stages; one is based on the vision of the Taxi Operators that is; Taxi drivers, conductors and Touts/Brokers while the other is a compilation of the taxi operators’ vision and the Passengers’ recommendations. | en_US |
