The impact of government intervention on affordable housing in Kampala

Abstract

The availability of affordable housing is a pressing issue that is affecting individuals and communities in developing countries. Government intervention plays a big role in addressing this challenge by implementing policies and programs that aim at increasing access to affordable housing for the low income groups. The research project aims to assess the impact of government intervention on affordable housing in Kampala. Through a comprehensive analysis of various factors such as funding, policies and regulations, this study identifies the levels of housing affordability in Kampala, examines the roles of housing policies and programs in solving urban housing problems in Kampala and also identifies the limitations to the implementation of housing policies and programs in providing affordable housing in Kampala. The research findings highlight the importance of adequate financing for affordable housing programs, strengthening of rent control measures and housing subsidies, the promotion of private public partnerships and investing more in supportive services. These recommendations can serve as a guide for policymakers and stakeholders to improve the efficacy of government intervention in affordable housing. By attending to diverse requirements of low income groups, we can work towards establishment of inclusive and fair communities where affordable housing becomes a tangible possibility for everyone.
