A smart bin for waste sorting and real-time management using GSM/LTE technology.
Abstract
This project aims to develop and implement a smart waste bin for efficient waste management.Traditional waste management practices often lead to overflowing bins, missedpickups, andimproper waste disposal, resulting in increased costs and environmental pollution. The objective of this study was to address these challenges by leveraging smart bintechnology,IoT connectivity, real time data analytics, and intelligent routing algorithms. The methodology involves designing and prototyping a smart bin equipped withsensorstomonitor waste levels plus a waste sorting mechanism for the different types of wastethatisthebiodegradable and the non-biodegradable wastes. These bins are connected toadashboardwhere the results from the bin are displayed and monitored remotely throughtheGSM/LTEcommunication technology enabling real time data collection and analysis. The collected data is then processed using advanced analytic techniques to identifypatternsand trends in waste generation, optimize waste collection routs, and predict bin fill levels. The key results of this study include a significant prototype that improves waste managementpractices. The smart bin system efficiently minimizes overflowing bins, reduces missedpickups, and ensures timely waste collection which contributes to environmental sustainability. The developed smart bin can automatically sort the different types of wastes that welookedatwhich were the biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes. We can also be abletoremotelymonitor the bins from a created dashboard.
