| dc.description.abstract | The study aimed at identifying the factors associated with alcohol consumption among spouses in Uganda. Its specific objectives included assessing the socio-economic factors influencing spouses to drink, determining the demographic factors associated with alcohol abuse among spouses establishing the association between economic factors and alcohol consumption, and analyzing the association between demographic factors and alcohol consumption. The study used secondary data which was collected by UBOS in 2016. This was obtained after seeking for permission from the DHS website. The study considered only spouses in Uganda as the study population. Analysis was done at two levels using STATA software. Univariate analysis included frequency distribution table, bivariate analysis included Pearson’s chi square and logistic regression reporting with odds ratio. The study findings indicated that, 19.8%of the respondents in Uganda often consumed alcohol. The factors associated with this included marital status, education level, wealth index, age, religion and region. Therefore, the researcher recommends institutions around the family should come together and support the victims of alcohol abuse through education and sensitization, moral support, provision of alternative engagement as a source of livelihood other than alcohol trade and revision of policies governing the licensing of alcoholic drinks and counselling spouses and younger adults who drink alcohol. | en_US |
