Dictatorship in Ateso folktales
Abstract
The dissertation “Dictatorship in Ateso folktales: An Analysis of the Representation of Authoritarianism in Ateso Oral Narratives” examines the way in which the Ateso folktales represent and critique dictatorship and authoritarianism. Drawing on a range of Ateso folktales, the dissertation uses qualitative approach to analyze the themes, motifs, and symbols that emerge in these narratives and to explore the ways in which they reflect and respond to the socio-political context of the region. The dissertation also explorers the ways in which Ateso folktales use various narrative techniques, including allegory, symbolism and metaphor, to convey their messages about dictatorship and authoritarianism. It examines the role of storytelling and oral tradition in Ateso society, and how these narratives serve as means of transmitting culture values and beliefs.
