dc.description.abstractThere are noticeable facts and figures to show that lighting devices (elements) used presently are decreasing in availability and that eventually they might run out after a couple of years. Sources state that ores of tungsten such as scheelite or tungstic acid [H2WO4], calcium tungstate [CaWO4], wolframite or iron manganese tungstate [Fe, MnWO4] are mined only in China, Portugal and Russia. And to think that their prices and costs are high, implies that a small number of financially able countries will access them. The project therefore involves the design and construction of an optimized graphite bulb, a new lighting device to incorporate the benefits of both the existing conventional light bulbs as well as the new benefits realized. Two graphite rods aligned in the same vicinity and in an enclosed space such that they have a point of contact to produce an arc of light (arc lighting) are setup. A Relay switch is incorporated to open and close the circuit. An arduino circuit used to automate the operation of the graphite operated bulb is incorporated. The result is a bright arc of light from within the point of contact of the graphite rods with optimized operation and efficiency to satisfy the lighting issues.
