Project report submitted to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Telecommunications Engineering of Makerere University
Engineering students find it very hard to understand the basics of electromagnetics and the available aiding tools of learning have not exploited the interactivity aspect of learning. So the aim of the project was to develop interactive animations and graphical user Interfaces for electromagnetic principles and applications. The project had the following stages; identifying the concepts to be animated, use of MATLAB software to develop interactive animations from the mathematical and theoretical concepts, creation of the graphical user interfaces and creation of an extensible file combining all the interactive animations. We were able to make interactive animations of Ampere circuit law, Biot-Savart law, forces on current carrying conductors, Gauss’s law, curl of a vector, divergence of a vector and accompanied by their corresponding theories. Creation of interactive animations for different concepts will be beneficial to students as they will relate the abstract concepts to something visual and interactive which hasn’t been the case before.
