Makerere University has a lot of assets, both tangible and intangible, in different colleges. Of these assets, some that are used in lecture facilitation get broken and others do not function. It is challenging that the ratio of broken to normal assets is not known. The management the records of these assets is manual thus the entire lifecycle of managing physical assets is done using paper records which is costly and time consuming during recording, retrieving, reporting and backing up of information. This report is a review of the process undertaken to create an asset management for Makerere University. A web-based asset management system with a database to store information has been developed using MySQL. A user interface, structured with an information display viewable by the user and available to user for entering information and commands, has also been developed using Hypertext Markup Language(HTML), Cascading Style Sheets(CSS) and Perl Hypertext Pre-processor(PHP) on a Laravel framework. The system is to be used by the various persons involved in the asset management process. A user is able to login, register asset information, write a report, view asset information according to the user permission level and logout thereafter. An android phone with the application ‘Barcode to PC’ was used as a barcode scanner. Multiple barcodes can be scanned while offline and stored in the Barcode to PC application server and fed into the system at later convenience.en_US
