This research project examined the effect of traffic congestion on fuel consumption costs on urban links and this was achieved by analyzing the traffic flow on Wandegeya-Kamwokya route with the help of vehicle digital measurement modules attached on the dashboard. This analysis was based on empirical data collected from a section 1km distance on the same route during peak and off peak hours considering travel time, average speed and fuel consumption. The results show considerable increase in fuel consumption under congested traffic conditions compared with free flow conditions, but also points to the differences depending on the type of itinerary.en_US
