| dc.description.abstract | This study was carried out to establish the effects of the online aided Transport Systems (OTS) on the Bodaboda service delivery in Uganda with main emphasis put in Kampala central Division. In order to meet the main objective of the study, the research intended to find out the OTS health effects on Bodaboda service delivery, OTS livelihood effects on the Bodaboda service delivery and the OTS mobility effects on the Bodaboda service delivery.
Structured questionnaires were used and 70 respondents were interviewed.
Analysis showed that riders who were using OTS were insignificantly associated with; Age, educational level, Marital status, higher incomes,reduced number of accidents/crushes, higher savings and average waiting time spent waiting for customers at various stations before and after joining the new system.Besides the research shows that the new system is highly convenient and flexible since customers only need to book a ride anywhere at any time with just a click on their smartphone compared to traditional system, research showed that the new system provides safety equipment’s to its members for example all interviewed respondents had two helmets both for a rider and the passenger, all had reflective jackets and a visible unique number embedded on their helmets both for the rider and passenger, this simply shows that the system is trustable and credible, all interviewed respondents highly acquired professional rider training from the respective OTS companies such as Safe boda,Uber and Taxify before getting to roads, further more analysis showed that all riders had an insurance cover compared to their counterparts in traditional system. All these offered services by OTS companies help to reduce on the rate of road accidents, murder and kidnap cases reported periodically and regulation of bodabodas which has remained a difficult tusk to authorities can easily be done under OTS.
In conclusion, based on the detailed results of the study, overall the study has revealed that Online Aided Transport System has no significant effect ofmobility, health and livelihood on the Bodaboda service delivery. This means that there is no significance difference whether a person operates under OTS system orunder the traditional system.Awareness of the new system to the general public is highly recommended, most emphasis should be put on the unique services this system brings to all parties. This study was only limited to effects of the system to the OTS operators in influencing the Bodaboda service delivery however a researcher can extend the study to the passengers and other parties in the Bodaboda industry. | en_US |
