Factors affecting sanitation in Uganda
Abstract
This study was conducted in Katanga Kampala district. The purpose of the study was to investigate factors that affect sanitation in Uganda. The objectives of the study were to determine the relationship between age and sanitation, relationship between sex and sanitation, relationship between occupation and sanitation, relationship between education and sanitation in Uganda. The research methodology for the study was descriptive research design. The sample size was 404 respondents and simple random sampling was used. Questionnaires were used to collect data and data was analyzed using Ms Excel and SPSS.
The study revealed that sex and sanitation are significant (P=0.001<0.05). The study findings revealed that age and sanitation are significant (P=0.002<0.05). The study findings revealed that source of drinking water and sanitation are significant (P=0.000<0.05). The study further established that education level and sanitation are significant (P=0.000<0.05). The study revealed that solid waste disposal and sanitation are significant (P=0.000<0.05). The study findings revealed that occupation and sanitation are significant (P=0.000<0.05). The study findings revealed that presence or absence of a latrine and sanitation are significant (P=0.000<0.05). The study findings revealed that the type of housing and sanitation are significant (P=0.000<0.05).
The study also recommended that the government should emphasis the traders both locally and internally so that they should sell their commodities in a clean environment. The study findings further concluded that average household size mainly affects sanitation and this means the households contain the small population of the people in the area.
