Analysis of factors associated with female participation in entrepreneurship in Uganda
Abstract
This study was conducted in Ntungamo Municipality. The purpose of the study was to investigate factors associated with female participation in entrepreneurship in Uganda. The specific objectives of the study were to establish how level of education influences female participation in entrepreneurship in Ntungamo Municipality, to assess how marital status influences female participation in entrepreneurship in Ntungamo Municipality, to investigate how access to finances influence female participation in entrepreneurship in Ntungamo Municipality and to investigate how age influences female participation in entrepreneurship in Ntungamo Municipality. The sample size was 96 females and stratified sampling technique was used. Questionnaires were used to collect data and data was analyzed using SPSS and both Univariate and Bivariate level. The study revealed that there was no significant relationship between demographic factors like age and participation in entrepreneurship at pr=0.606>0.05 hence no relationship. The study also revealed that there was significant relationship between economic factors like income level and participation in entrepreneurship at pr=0.000<0.05 hence significantly related. The study further revealed that there was significant relationship between socio-cultural factors like family background inform of education level of parents of respondents and participation in entrepreneurship. The study findings concluded that demographic factors such as age and marital status were found not to influence participation in entrepreneurship and whereas level of education and number of children were found to influence participation in entrepreneurship. The study findings further concluded that all economic factors, namely level of income, occupation, access to finance and access to market were found to influence female participation in entrepreneurship. The all play a crucial role in nurturing female participation in entrepreneurship .The study also recommended that the government should put more emphasis on women above 35 years of age since they are more committed to venturing into entrepreneurship as compared to the youth where most of the government effort is consolidated. The study finally recommended that Government should empower women financially through their associations to increase their income levels since the study findings revealed income level and participation in entrepreneurship are significantly related.
