| dc.description.abstract | Using an ATMEGA328P-PU microcontroller with an Ethernet and NEO GPS modem to provide remote notification SMS and disable the meter if assumed to have changed location or exposed to light. This helps to track the prepaid meters and preventing any attempt of tampering done by unauthorized personnel.
The NEO GPS modem is responsible for picking location coordinates both along the latitude and longitude which are displayed on the liquid crystal display and on the server. In case of any change in the location coordinates, the relay is opened and the LCD displays change in location and the server changes the screen color from green to red. As well if the photo sensor senses light, the relay will open and the LCD displays “meter open” and the server screen changes color from green to red. This implies that tampering of the prepaid meter will lead to the opening of the relay switch.
Chapter one is the introduction which gives general background of Umeme and its experience with meter tampering, problem statement, main objective and specific objectives, justification, significance and scope.
Chapter two is the literature review which summarizes tampering and its effects, strategies to curb meter tampering, monitoring and notification system and how it operates
Chapter three is the Implementation which summarizes research, system design with selection of various components, construction and testing
