| dc.description.abstract | The main purpose of the study was to find out the contribution of social protection intervention, Case study of SAGE. The research mainly focused on the elderly who are benefiting from SAGE that is 65 years and above but it was lowered in the case of more vulnerable Karamoja region to 60 years who receive Ushs.25000 and how SAGE has improved their lives. The research study also focused on the different types of social protection, the different forms that lie under them, the theories of social protection, different literature about social protection and conceptual framework of social protection. Secondary data was used and Excel and Stata were used for analysis. Univariate analysis was carried out mainly using frequency tables for the categorical variables, bivariate analysis was done using chi-square distribution and conclusions were made at 5% level of significance and then a multivariate analysis was done that is logistic regression analysis.
The results from the bivariate analysis showed that there is a relationship between saving SAGE transfers with age group, household composition, physical status, feeding patterns, health status, school attendance of children and social life. They also showed that there is no relationship between saving SAGE transfers with the gender of the beneficiaries and their marital status.
Under multivariate analysis, it was indicated that physical status, health status, school attendance of children and status of the beneficiary are significant predictors of saving of SAGE transfer. In conclusion, SAGE has played a big role in improving on the elderly’s welfare in Uganda that is the majority of them are able to access basic needs like food, medical care, and education for the children in the household and also carry out investment. However, according the research study, the government should increase on the amount of money they provide to the beneficiaries and should also teach the elderly the importance of saving since according to the study, majority of the beneficiaries do not save. | en_US |
