This paper sought to examine the determinants of access to health insurance schemes in Uganda using demographic variables. Secondary data obtained from the Uganda Health and Demographic Survey of 2016 was used for analysis since this tends to be a national survey and therefore would give nationally representative results. 5 variables were used with 2,479 observations. The variables were age of household, gender, wealth index, household number and education. Analysis was carried out using STATA 14 The results of the study showed that there was significant relationship between access to health insurance and wealth index (p=0.000) and education level (p =0.000) at critical of (p= 0.05). Therefore there is urgent need for government of Uganda to keep improving the education standards in Uganda as this keeps one more knowledgeable about health and methods available to make it better. The government also has to come up with poverty eradication programs and policies to increase people’s ability to own such services.en_US
