A report submitted to School of Computing and Information Technology for the study leading to the project in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology of Makerere University.en_US
At the College of Computing and Information Sciences at Makerere University, it has always been a challenge to coordinate and manage the internship program. This is because of the inappropriate management of records that makes it hard for the academic supervisors to make a proper assessment of students. Locating students at their places of internship proved to be a challenge and therefore there was need to conduct research to find remedies to the challenges involved in the process of internship. The main objective was to develop an Electronic Records management System to support the internship training at the College of Computing and Information Sciences in order to ease the work of assessment by the academic supervisors, enable students to keep a record of daily activities and tasks assigned to them by field supervisors from any place of convenience. A review and study of research works form external sources like articles, journals, Internet that were related to the project was carried out to point out different views in relation to Electronic records management system for internship at COCIS. For the success of this project, techniques like questionnaires were used to gather the requirements for developing an Electronic Records Management system for internship at COCIS. The requirements were analysed and the system was designed using context diagram, data flow diagram for process modelling and an Entity Relationship Diagram for data modelling. A full description of the analysis and the design of the system were made under which there were user requirements, functional requirements, and non-functional requirements plus examination of the current system at COCIS and analysing the requirements of the system as well as design parameters. There were descriptions about data modelling in the design of the Electronic Records management system for internship at COCIS. The result of the project was the Electronic Records management system for internship at COCIS capable of allowing students to Record, Edit and view supervisors’ comment, and also allow supervisors to view, comment about what students have done during their training. Supervisors that are more so academic can be able to find student location. The system was finally run on the computer, was verified to be running sufficiently well, and produced the expected results.en_US
