To design and construct a pedal powered phone charging system that is affordable to rural communities in Uganda.
Abstract
This project report contains information about the design and construction of a pedal powered phone charging system which is able to either charge the phones directly using the dynamo or charging the battery which can later be used to charge the phones in case the user is not willing to pedal
A pedal powered charging system is a system that uses human energy to produce electricity to charge anything like a phone, laptop, battery and others. In this case a bottle dynamo was used as the convertor of mechanical power to electrical power. It is connected near the behind wheel of bicycle and during use, its engaged with the wheel hence converting mechanical power to electrical power
With this system, the person can still use his or bicycle to do their daily work as they charge their phones.
This project is designed mainly for people in rural areas who have bicycles and don’t have electricity. Most of the people in rural areas travel long distances with their bicycles to take phones to charging centres hence wasting productive time. This project aims at solving that problem.
The project contributes towards the academic qualification for any mechanical engineering student hence it’s a must to do it in order to graduate.
The report is written in simple English, simple engineering techniques were used hence making the system easy to use, maintain and some assumptions were made where necessary, standard formulas and basic principles of mechanical engineering were used in the designing of the system.
The report has six chapters each is well organised and easily followed. References are also included on the las page of the report.
