Theft on building sites can compromise the successful performance on most of the construction works for any project undertaken. These events continue occurring throughout the project life span if not well handled. To avoid or reduce these events from occurring, appropriate measures have to be undertaken. This study was conducted to examine the impact of theft on building sites, first through understanding its magnitude, causes, effective measures applied and finding possible practices that have already been proven by different contractors. Basing on the previously conducted research studies, this study highlights the nature, magnitude, impact, cost and causes of theft in the building industry as handled by different researchers nationwide. This literature review is evident that companies are losing huge amounts of money due to theft. The study was made on sixteen building sites within Kampala central division using questionnaires, interviews and observations conducted among site managers, engineers, quantity surveyors, foremen, store keepers, gate keepers and a few porters. Data collected was converted into quantitative values using percentages and mean scores. The analysis of the results concluded that theft is not a frequent incident on majority of the building sites. This was due to effective measures that different contractors have applied to reduce theft on site hence leading to negligible impact of theft on their building projects.en_US
