dc.description.abstractThe research investigated the challenges associated with vehicle parking in Kampala central business district. The study sought to identify the different car parking type in Kampala central business district, to identify the challenges faced by different vehicle parking in Kampala central business district and suggest possible strategies through which the challenges associated with vehicle parking can be solved in Kampala central business district. Data were collected using different methods which included the use of questionnaires, photography, interviews, random sampling and using statistical data. It also contains the interview techniques used during the data processing and analysis process. The findings revealed that there are four types of parking which included, Surface, On-street, Underground and Multi story parking. The challenges faced by vehicle parking in Kampala central business district included the following, Inadequacy of parking spaces, Insecurity, Dark parking areas, Increased number of cars, Rapid urbanization, Traffic congestion, Pedestrian safety and comfort, Demand for the right of way, Loading and unloading zone, and Confusing parking policies. The research recommends the Implementation of mixed-use parking in the period of peak demand, Strict enforcement of traffic rules and regulations, KCCA should increase parking space in the city by encouraging private investors to come on board to develop public parking spaces, Validation of parking for the specific time, Apply the advance parking system in our parking management, Provision of designated and specified park for different vehicles a monger other. The research concluded that there is a need to work on the basis of long-term plans and at the same time take care of discomforts or problems. The authority that can look after the construction and development of roads, intersections, pedestrian facilities and make master plans for inner, middle and outer roads which will help us in reducing the traffic congestion in Kampala central business district, the relevant department should figure out the parking supply and demand system, and make a guide policy and planners should also work out how to coordinate parking facilities with city transportation hub, and public transportation stationsen_US
