dc.description.abstractReal Estate Development is relatively a new investment opportunity that has enabled people to purchase plots of land and construct homes in areas of Wakiso district and Kampala. This study is an attempt to examine the role played by Real Estate Developments to promote Informal Developments areas of Nansana Municipality. The study sought to classify key Real Estates and key Informal, examine the role played by Real Estate Developments in promoting Informal Developments, examine the challenges encountered by Real Estate Developers and Nansana Municipality Authorities in trying to ensure that Real Estate Developments are well planned, suggest strategies that can be put in place to ensure that all Real Estate Developments follow and meet physical planning standards. Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire and interview guide. Field observations and secondary data supplemented interviews. A total sample of 46 respondents including estate residents, officials of Nansana Municipal, Real Estate Developers and local leaders were consulted. Data collected was analysed by using the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS). Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis. Research findings indicate that Real Estate Developments in Nansana Municipality have played a role in promoting Informal Developments within and around the estates due to the services and facilities which are extended nearer to the plots. However, this increased the cost of land, which the poor could not afford to buy thereby leading to Informal Developments, key Informal Developments and key Real Estate Developments, challenges faced by Real Estate Develkopers and Nansana Municipality Authorities in ensuring that Real estate Developments are well planned. The research suggests strategies that can be put forward to ensure that Real Estate Developments follow and meet physical planning standards.en_US
