    Abstract
This report is hereby presented as an account of the final year project. It serves as a partial fulfilment of the requirement for the award of a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. It is a compulsory requirement of the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology that every student enrolled in this course should undertake a relevant project in his fourth year of study and prepare an accompanying report documenting the project. This report details the design and construction of a low-power audio transmitter and receiver unit; a device so conceived by the author as to provide full duplex audio communication over relatively short spans up to about 200m. The contents of this report in chronological order include an introduction which essentially avails the general back ground information on the communication requirements, the problem statement and the objectives of the project, the justification and scope of the project. Next comes the literature review which presents a fairly comprehensive account of the various components needed to construct this device. The methodology that was followed to accomplish the project is then presented. Finally, the detailed design and construction of the device are shown along with a discussion of the results, conclusions and recommendations. The chapter on design contains the concepts that were analysed and considered to come up with the final circuit design, the design calculations, simulation and component selection. The chapter on construction details the procedures followed in the construction of the individual sub-elements and their final assembly to form the complete device.
