Cracks in buildings are a common occurrence and a universal problem faced throughout the world as they develop whenever the stress in the component exceeds the strength. Ceiling cracks are a common type of problem in buildings. So it was important to understand the different cracks and their causes and the measures to be taken for prevention. Though cracks in concrete/ mortar cannot be prevented entirely, they can be controlled by using adequate material and technique of construction. For rehabilitation of cracks it was important to understand the causes and the types of cracks appeared in the structure. This study describes the causes and types of cracks in wire-mesh ceilings of residential buildings through building inspections and interviews of experts involved in building construction. The report comprises of six chapters. Chapter one describes the introduction of the study containing the background, problem statement, objectives of study, justification and scope of research. Chapter two describes literature about wire-mesh ceiling and cracks. Chapter three describes the methodology of the study. Chapter four describes the analysis, findings and the discussions.
