    The relationship between industrial development and urban SPRAWL: a case study of Kampala-Mbalala urban corridor.

    Abstract
    Sprawl is a major challenge within Kampala- Mbalala urban corridor. This is influenced by the industrial establishments within the corridor which tend to attract large populations where they are located thus it has led to expansion of urban boundaries without control by the different local authorities. The study finds out the relationship between industrial development and urban sprawl within Kampala-Mbalala urban corridor. The study identifies the location of industrial development and the trends of development around the industrial development within the corridor. The study also examines how industrial activities influence sprawl, it also examines challenges resulting from sprawl and the strategies which have been proposed to combat the challenges. Literature concerning the study was reviewed to identify the gaps which would be focused on during the research. The study also employed certain data collection methods such as observation, literature review and interview method. This also involved clearly elaborating the sample design for the research and identifying the research methods to be used as qualitative and quantitative. The study also presents the analyzed data from the collected data and clearly points out the research findings basing on the specific objectives of the study. The findings include the identified industrial development, the challenges and strategies which have been used within the study area. Additionally the study suggests recommendations on how to overcome the challenges of sprawl in Kampala-Mbalala urban corridor.
