Factors Associated With Usage of Modern Contraceptive Method: A Case study of Eastern Uganda

Abstract

The research that was carried out on the factors associated with contraceptive use in Uganda found out that this is a big concern in Uganda today. The researcher's main objective was to identify the factors associated with contraceptive use in Uganda. This research was based on the UDHS data of 2016. The data was analyzed using STATA 15. Analysis was done using 3 levels; univariate, bivariate and multivariate. At univariate analysis, frequency distributions were used to describe characteristics of the respondents in order to get the proportion of women using contraceptives in eastern Uganda, while at bivariate level, cross tabulation and Pearson's chi square ( ) test were used to find out the relationship between contraceptive use and independent variables (social demographic variables, education and income). At rnultivariate level, a binary logistic regression analysis was used to find out the factors associated with contraceptive use in eastern Uganda. Eighty percent (80%) of the respondents did not use contraceptives. Results of binary logistic regression showed that wealth index was significantly associated with contraceptive use. Therefore, the study recommends that to promote contraceptive use, there is need to address poverty among women which limits them from accessing and using contraceptives and therefore it calls for the empowerment of women in eastern Uganda as a way of promoting contraceptive use
