The involvement of parents in improving academic performance of their children
Abstract
This study entitled: Involvement of parents in improving academic performance of their children: A case study of parents in Kajjansi cell a slum was carried out to find out the involvement of parents in contributing towards pupils’ academic performance. The study utilized both qualitative and quantitative techniques during data collection and analysis. The study purposively sampled 40 pupils and followed up their parents. The study used two sets of instruments namely: questionnaire for parents, students and interview guide for teachers. The findings indicated that parents’ involvement in the pupils’ study is very essential to their performance with 90% of the parents helping their children with homework through guiding them through technical and complex tasks, and as well advising them. However only 37.5% of the parents attended school meetings always while 40% attended once in a while and 22.5% rarely attended school meetings and were equally unaware of school programs. A total of 85.7%pupils believe that parents’ involvement in their education is very important and the relationship between them and their parents is just a key ingredient in their success.
