dc.description.abstractIn this work, analysis of the performance of a cellular hybrid network, taking Makerere University as a case study is done. This analysis involves collection of data concerning the geographical locations of current UHF macrocells in and around the region of interest, designing a system model for the hybrid network, simulating the current and hybrid networks in MATLAB, and comparing the performance of the two networks. The 5G BSs in the hybrid network are deployed randomly and uniformly within the current network. Performance analysis of the two networks is done using performance metrics such as: probability of SIR coverage, probability of rate coverage, sum rate, energy efficiency, energy consumption gain and energy reduction gain. For all these key performance indicators, it is observed from numerical results that the hybrid network offers better coverage, greater data rates, and is more energy efficient than the current network. It is also concluded that for an energy efficient hybrid network, an optimal number of 5GBSs should be deployed.en_US
