| dc.description.abstract | The study was focused on exploring the voting rights of persons with disabilities in
Adyel Division, Lira District. The study objective included: To access the voting rights of
persons with disabilities, to examine the challenges faced by persons with disabilities when
voting, and to explore interventions for improving on the voting rights of persons with
disabilities in Adyel Division.
The study involved the use of semi structured questionnaires and out of the sample size of 86,
a total of 82 respondents in Adyel Division were interviewed. A total of 10 key informants
were also interviewed and literature review was also done to supplement on the research
findings.
The study findings show that majority of the people in Adyel Division are familiar with the
voting rights of persons with disabilities. However, they still face certain challenges like
negative attitudes from others, discrimination, and limited financial capacity to contest for
political positions. Remarkably, certain interventions like special treatment and attention,
training and sensitization of the general public are being used to ensure that the voting rights
of persons with disabilities are observed in Adyel Division.
I recommend that the University should partner with different stakeholders to promote
research about the different rights of persons with disabilities so as to develop interventions
that will improve on their standards of living. | en_US |
