dc.description.abstractThe main purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of household poverty on primary education schooling in Kigumba Sub-county. A secondary data analysis of Uganda Demographic and Health Survey (UDHS) Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) data set of 2015 conducted on primary schools in Kiryandongo District was used. The secondary data was analysed using STATA and inference was made from this analysis. Univariate, bivariate and multivariate levels of analysis were done. A descriptive summary was made for each of the variables at the univariate level and a chi square analysis was run between primary education schooling and the rest the variables at 5% level of significance. At the bivariate level of analysis and multivariate level, a multiple linear regression model was run with primary education schooling as the dependent variable and the rest of the variables as independent variables at 5% level of significance. These results revealed primary education schooling is significantly and positively influenced by the household possessions like stone / brick walls, toilet / latrine, television, phone, access to electricity. Also household characteristics such as mothers with secondary education qualification and household heads with primary and secondary education qualification have positive and significant influence on primary education, while ownership of sheep and goats by the households significantly influenced primary education schooling to the negative direction. The study concludes that household necessities like access to electricity and clean water, and characteristics such as mothers‟ and household head‟s education level have a positive influence on primary education schooling. The study thus recommends government to ensure increased accessibility and distribution of electricity through its Rural Electrification programmes. More so women should be advised to engage in education to highest level education possible.en_US
