| dc.description.abstract | The objective of the study was to investigate the determinants of income of sugarcane out growers in Igombe and Muguluka village Jinja district the assessment was done on sex, age, educational level, area cultivated, access to loan and land ownership as the independent variable the dependent variable that measured income of sugar cane out growers was their monthly income primary date was basically used. A sample of 96 sugar cane out growers was randomly selected from two villages Igombe and Muguluka the analysis was made at two levels that, at Univariate level, frequency tables any descriptive summary statistics were used and at Bivariate level, person correlation and ANOVA was used at 5 % level of significance
In the results of study, majority of the out grower (58%) were males and 42% females. Over half of the respondents (51%) were aged between 36-46, 49% were 45 and above, 27% were 26-35 and 6% were 25 and below. The highest number of out growers (68%) was married, 14% were divorce or separated, 11% were single and 7% were widows. The biggest numbers of out growers (33%) were Protestants 29% were Catholics, 18.75 were Muslims %, 14% were born again4% belong to other religion and only 1% belongs to traditional religion. The number of family members in the household ranged from 1 to 20. The average number of family member in household is 6 members. The monthly estimated average incomes ranged from Ush 80,000 to Ush 5,000,000. The average income of out grower is 482, 95.8 which reflect relatively higher income among out growers. At Bivariate level the research investigated whether there is a significant relationship between average monthly income and all independent variables .Sex ,religion and marital status have no significantly effect on average monthly income related (p>0.05) while area cultivated, access to loan from financial institutions, ownership of land and educational level have significant on average monthly income (p<0.05). At multivariate analysis, only area cultivated has significant effect on income of out grower (p>0.05). | en_US |
