    Abstract
The Web Based Graduand Clearance System enables the heads of departments in Makerere University to query for cleared students. The project was developed because of the lengthy and numerous paper work procedures that students in Makerere University under go to clear with different university departments in order to get their transcripts. We collected data using interviews and observation from the users. In particular, we interviewed students who had already cleared with different clearing departments in 2017 such as; the police, university hospital, halls of residence and the library. The collected data was analyzed using excel spreadsheets. The project was designed using Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs) for the process model and Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) for the data model. It was implemented using technologies such as Hyper Text Markup Languages (HTML) for the interfaces, cascading style sheet (CSS) for styling the interfaces, Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) for connecting the database and the interfaces and MSQL for the database. The Web based graduand clearance system serves as a more reliable and effective means of undertaking students’ clearance, removes all forms of delay and stress, enables a student to understand the procedures involved in clearance using their web. In conclusion, the project was able to clear graduands. It is, however, recommended for use by all students of Makerere University.
