A project report submitted in Partial fulfillment of the Requirements for the award of a degree of Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, Makerere Universityen_US
Given the large scale of confusion that reigns supreme when mostly car drivers are faced with car breakdown issues more so in areas they may not be more conversant with, trying to locate a nearby mechanic to work on the problem may be difficult for the car driver. We were motivated to carry out this research and to come up with a solid solution to this conclusion. Having looked at some of the functioning systems related to location finding around the world, the approach involved use of interviews whereby we interviewed a number of mechanics around Wakiso and Kampala districts. We also carried out document review on a number of documents available especially on the internet and also issued questionnaires to car drivers that we met with in the same areas to find out their views about their experience with the current system of locating mechanics and receiving car repair services. Considering the current technology boost in Uganda, we noted that Android GPS- Based Locator application would be the best method to use since it is cheap and readily available to all users that can access the internet. We interpreted the android design using multiple tools for example data flow diagrams and process modeling. The application was developed using a number of languages such as android Java to view the development for the front end, MYSQL for database design and PHP for connecting the front end to the back end. The report also explains the challenges we encountered throughout the development process and the conclusion which simply highlights the extent to which the project was successful. In conclusion, an Android GPS-Based Mechanic Locator Application was developed which allows a car driver to login, view nearby mechanics with their contact information, send a request for mechanic need to a given mechanic and get real time feedback from the mechanic and they can quickly get car repair services.en_US
