| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between stress, self-esteem and suicidal ideation among late adolescents in Our Lady of Africa S.S Namilyango in Mukono district. The study adopted a correlational survey design that is quantitative in nature with a population of 100 respondents. A census sampling technique was adopted by the researcher because the total number of students in this school was relatively small thus, in order to avoid sampling bias; this technique was used to draw a sample of 80 respondents. Data was collected using a 13- item stress scale and 11-self-esteem, and lastly, suicidal ideation was measured using a 13-item scale). Data was entered into Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) computer program version 23.0 and hypotheses tested using Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (r). Results indicated that; there is a significant and positive relationship between stress and self-esteem; findings revealed that there is no significant relationship between stress and suicidal ideation. Finally, findings showed that there is no significant relationship between self-esteem and suicidal ideation. Thus, based on the findings of this study: it is important to note that this study came to existence as an attempt to raise the awareness about suicidal ideations' risk factors and prevention so that secondary school students in crisis may be recognized and helped or carried out at the Deanship of Students' Affairs. Other implication to this study, it may help others in the field of counseling psychology in how to recognize the risk factors, the signs of suicidal ideation and develop a plan of action to prevent this psychological and social issue | en_US |
