The researcher analyzed the determinants of academic excellence of students in the University specifically analyzing the association of admission points, parents` economic status, former school background, student`s age, gender, place of residence and type of sponsorship with their academic excellence. The study used primary data where 140 students were interviewed using a well-designed and pretested questionnaire. And the analysis was done using SPSS software to test for the significance of the dependency. The study reviled that academic excellence of the students was significantly depending on their age, place of residence, admission points and the background of their former schools. In that students that were age 19 to 21 years, those residing in university hall, those that scored highly at A level (15 to 20 points) and whose schools were located in rural areas and those from government owned schools were performing better as compared to the rest.en_US
