dc.description.abstract | The present report introduces a dataset, a case of College Of Business And Management Sciences at
Makerere university which is evaluating the knowledge that staff members have about the Makerere
University Retirement Benefits Scheme. It allows us to investigate the knowledge that the members
have about the scheme as they plan to retire in the future. Retirement planning involves the process of
all possible decisions that an individual can take today in order to be able to provide for his/her
financial future during retirement age. The main aim of this study was to determine the extent of
knowledge that staff members have about the University’s retirement scheme and the different factors
that may affect the amount of knowledge that they possess. The different factors evaluated include
age, sex, marital status, number of years in active service. The objectives are to determine the
association between the different factors evaluated and the staff members’ involvement in the
MURBS activities and to ascertain the degree at which the knowledge that they currently possess
about the scheme has/ has not affected their retirement plans. There were 48 questionnaires that were
distributed to respondents who are employed by the university in the two schools. The first chapter
introduces the major topic that is knowledge on retirement benefits. It also states the statement
problem, the hypotheses, the significance of the study and its scope. Chapter two is the literature
review which underlines the significance and role that knowledge plays in preparation for retirement
and in proper administration. Chapter three deals with the research methodology. It highlights the
targeted population, research design and the area of study. The sampling procedure and selection plus
the data collection method are elaborated here. It further focuses on the statistical tools such as the
cross tabulation. The software used is EPIDATA and STATA. The chapter four deals with analysis
and interpretation of the research work, suggestions for future moves and concluding remarks. The
results of the study revealed significant relationships between knowledge and the different factors
evaluated. This dataset entails a detailed knowledge on retirement questions, permitting a fine
assessment of respondents’ knowledge about the retirement benefits scheme based on a few major
factors. It also allows us to investigate prior training and education about retirement benefits by the
university. This report was sourced from the staff members at COBAMS and by every measure and in
the sample examined, knowledge about retirement benefits proves to be a key aspect in ensuring a
safe retirement for employees. The findings of the study will be useful to the University scheme’s
management to increase on the awareness of the schemes activities so that members are ectively
involved in their retirement package preparations.
