dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study is to assess child violence in primary schools in Uganda.
Child violence and child abuse have been a problem in in different primary schools, homes
and many other places. This research has also identified the strong connection between child
violence and the children’s performance in class. Qualitative methods of data collection
where used during field work and these were key informant interviews, participant
observations, focus group discussions and documentations and records. These where used
with the guidance of the research tools data collection which include; interview guide and
observation checklist. All these methods were used to collect relevant information according
to the objectives that were drafted in the proposal. Information was drafted from the
participants at the primary school especially the teachers and the pupils. The results of the
findings showed that violence is still a big problem in Ugandan schools and many pupils have
fallen victim, these acts are protracted through physical violence that includes fighting, carpal
punishments among others. Non-physical violence, verbal violence exposed through insults
and harassment and sexual violence through rape, sexually bulling. Chapter one includes the
background to the study, child violence in primary schools, charter two includes literature
review following the objectives, chapter three includes the research methodology, chapter
four includes presentation and interpretation of findings. Chapter five also includes the
