The world currently produces more than enough food to feed everyone, yet 815 million people (roughly 11% of the global population) went hungry in 2016, according to the U.N. By 2050, with the global population expected to reach 9.8 billion, our food supplies will be under far greater stress. Therefore in this project we designed a modern vacuum food storage container for preserving perishable goods for a longer period of time to add and improve on our food preservation methods. The vast majority of instances of food spoilage can be attributed to one of two major causes: (1) the attack by pathogens (disease-causing microorganisms) such as bacteria and molds, or (2) oxidation that causes the destruction of essential biochemical compounds and/or the destruction of plant and animal cells. The various methods that have been devised for preserving foods are all designed to reduce or eliminate one or the other (or both) of these causative agents. The vacuum food container creates the vacuum were we store food, this completely deprives oxygen from our food therefore totally digging out possible oxidation of essential biochemical compounds and also providing nonconducive environment for the multiplication of bacteria. The pressure sensor inside the container monitors the pressure which is connected to a circuit to turn on and off the vacuum pump when needed. This keeps food safer without routine checkups.en_US
