dc.description.abstractIntroduction: IPV has effects which hinders someone wellbeing, this study therefore explored if IPV has reduced basing on the following objectives; to determine the magnitude and trends of intimate partner violence, to identify the factors influencing intimate partner violence, to explore societal perception on intimate partner violence, to establish the existing strategies for intimate partner violence. Methodology: The researcher used a descriptive design and also employed both qualitative and quantitative approaches to obtain detailed data. Questionnaires and interviews were used to obtain quantitative data and qualitative respectively Findings: The study found out that there was prevalence of IPV and the trends are increasing with emotional violence being the common experienced type of violence among intimates. The study also found out IPV was influenced by all factors of individual, relationship, community and institution factors. The study showed that the community has negative perception toward IPV which may result into acting to size down the statistics of IPV in the community. And finally, the study showed that the society is responding to IPV through reporting to authorities, sensitizing the community, counseling couples, encouraging unmarried couples to marry and providing accommodation to IPV survivors. Conclusion and recommendations: Therefore, the researcher concludes that the prevalence of IPV in the community and the trends are increasing with emotional violence being the common experienced type of violence amongst intimates. Thus, the researcher recommends that the government should prioritize the funding through government budget and donors support for the intervention programs that are to be implemented to prevent IPV in Uganda. The study also recommends that comprehensive sensitization programs should be carried out among the community leaders, religious leaders, judges, advocates, and women and girls on gender roles, gender inequality, cultural and traditional norms, and the attitude that causes IPV.en_US
