| dc.description.abstract | The study investigated the factors affecting pineapple production in Wobulenzi, Luwero District. The objectives of the study were to assess the effect of demographic factors on pineapple production and to assess the effect of economic factors on pineapple production. The study used the cross sectional research design to collect data at that point in time. Questionnaires and interview guides were used as data collection tools to collect data from a sample of 68 respondents. Analysis was carried out at the univariate, bivariate and multivariate levels. The study analyzed the results employing Cobb-Douglas production function. Descriptive statistics, correlation tests, ANOVA and binary logistic regression analysis were used to analyze data.
The study concluded that only five hypotheses after the multivariate levels were accepted and these were education level, extension officers, cooperative societies, sex and years spent in Wobulenzi. This implies that a unit increase in one of the above significant factors leads to an increase in pineapple production.
It’s imperative that the following recommendations be put into consideration in pursuit of increasing the level of pineapple production in Wobulenzi. Farmers should make it an aim to join the cooperative societies, inquire from extension officers in decision making, in order to be able to increase on their production. The government needs to intervene and increase the access to extension services by the farmers in the study area.
