dc.description.abstractThis report encompasses the reduction of chemical oxygen demand of waste water arising from dyes used in the manufacture of human hair in hair manufacturing industries and nitrogen reduction in waste water as a result of lechate from the hair industry dumps which would otherwise lead to eutrophication in water bodies. The fenton process aims to solve the above problems by oxidizing organic pollutants in waste being comprised of a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and iron (ii) ions. The mixture contains free hydroxyl radical which is the active component in the process. Through experimentation it was found that the optimum conditions for the process were a PH of 2.5, catalyst, iron (ii) sulphate and a reaction time of 60 minutes.en_US
