There have been several research studies made concerning the impact of urbanization on the environmentally sensitive areas like wetlands, however the findings highlighted are situated in main urban cities, like Kampala, Jinja, among others thus giving less attention to the suburb regions in the transitional zones with contradicting elements of rural and urban setting such areas are so prone to the impacts of urbanization from the main urban centers for instance Kasangati Town Council, this attracted my attention to undertake this research showing the challenges of conserving peri-urban wetlands against the pressure from urbanization in Kasangati Town Council as explained in chapter one. More focus should be laid on the wetland resources located in rural and sub urban areas since they are being subjected to development at a higher rate even before land use planning for these environmentally sensitive areas, therefore selecting Bulamu-deputy cell as a peri-urban zone of Kasangati town council whose center that is relatively more developed as detailed in chapter two. Chapter three explains how Bulamu wetland has been and is still being subjected to encroachment by human activity, therefore in a bid to address the challenges of its conservation with regards to the literature review, several policies have been set by the central government like the National policy which has been implemented by other bodies like the Wetland Inspection Division and the National Wetland Programme. Chapter four details Acts have been established in a bid to implement environmental policies and among these acts include; National Environment Act, the National Wetland Policy, the Environmental Statute, among others, local governments have tried to streamline these regulations to their local areas of jurisdiction. Chapter five summarizes the need for the operation of these rules and regulations into the urban activities the wetlands will completely diminish, therefore the research has recommendations could help reduce on the challenges of conserving this wetland and these should be monitored for the effective performance and regeneration of Bulamu wetland.en_US
