dc.description.abstractThis study aimed to establish the contribution of Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment towards primary pupil’s retention in school in Kyegegwa town council Kyegegwa District. It was specifically aimed at finding out how Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment has contributed towards pupil’s retention in school, how the program has helped to address issues of dropout, reasons that lead some pupils to drop out of school and the recommendations on how social protection programs can be improved to help in retention of pupils in school. It comprises of five chapters; chapter one includes the background to the study, objectives and statement of the problem. Chapter two includes literature review which is written in line with the objectives of the study showing the opinions of other scholars who conducted their study before and different write up on Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment program. Chapter three includes research methodology where different data collection methods were used to gather information such as in-depth interview and the key informant interviews plus research tools including the in-depth interview guide and key informant interview guide. Chapter four presents discussion of the findings. In the findings, it was found out that Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment program have had an impact on education and is additive to pupil’s retention in school. However, there are some cases where the beneficiaries are misusing the funds through drinking up the funds. Chapter five consists of summary, conclusion and recommendation of the study.
