A research project submitted to the School of Statistics and Planning in partial fulfilment of the requirements for award of Bachelor of Science in Business Statistics degree of Makerere Universityen_US
The study aimed at identifying the contribution of poultry farming on alleviation of poverty among respondents residing in Kabuubu village. To obtain the contribution, the study assessed the relationship between socio-economic factors and poultry farming, relationship between health factors and poultry farming and the relationship between environmental factors and poultry farming among respondents in Gayaza Kabuubu village. The study used primary data collected from poultry farmers in Kabuubu village using a structured closed ended questionnaire with four sections. The study used a cross sectional study design where quantitative data from the field was used. Data obtained was cleaned and analyzed used STATA software at two levels including univariate analysis for percentage distribution and bivariate analysis with a measure of association. Study findings indicated that at a larger extent, poultry farming did not contribute to poverty reduction among respondents in Kabuubu village since the majority of the respondents did not benefit from poultry farming. On considering the study hypotheses; There existed a significant relationship between poverty reduction and ability of respondent to saving making the stated null hypotheses for these variables false. Having enough facilities for their birds and even manage the disease prevalence in their birds was found to be statistically significant making the null hypotheses stated for these variables false. Therefore, the researcher concluded that facilities on the farm and rareness of poultry diseases contributed poverty reduction among poultry farmers. The researcher recommends all poultry farmers to adopt the practice of vaccination of birds as a measure against disease prevalence to boost poultry production. The farmers should have enough facilities from where they can manage poultry farming in order to increase on their productivity. The government should also provide support through market creation and promotion both locally and internationally so as to encourage the farmers to invest more in poultry farming.en_US
