| dc.description.abstract | The study aimed out to at examineing the effects of child neglect on mental health of children aged between 12-17 years in Seeta Mukonon. This was done basing on the two objectives:The study objectives were to e Establishing the prevalence of child neglect among 12- 17 year old children in Seeta Mukono and understanding the association between mental health and neglect of children. The study adopted a cross sectional survey was administered to. The study sampled 127 children, selected randomly. using simple random sampling under probability sampling technique. The study instrument was a questionnaire which comprised of closed ended questions addressing the study objectives. Analysis was done using SPSS, Microsoft Excel to draft distribution tables. which were later transported to Microsoft word to help in explaining the data. Analysis of quantitative data was done through use of objective measurements, statistical, mathematical or numerical analysis of collected data using polls, questionnaire and surveys.
Findings revealed that most neglected children who are neglected are characterised by liveing with single parents or no parent, and had low education levels, poor parental care. The study found out that most children suffer from mental health due to child neglect for instance the study revealed that 45% felt tired in the past 30 days, 50.3% of the children felt depressed sometimes in the past 30 days, this implies a strong negative effect of child neglect on mental health of children.
The study recommends that community mobilization and sensitization should be adopted by the stakeholders like the government and NGOs to educate the communities on the dangers or effects of child neglect on mental health of children. This is to promote good practices of caring and loving children so as they grow as responsible members of the community in a safe and enabling environment. | en_US |
