This research study aimed at analyzing the factors responsible for increasing consumption of alcohol among youths in the peri-urban areas of Kampala – using Bwaise as the case study, the research study aimed at achieving different objective for instance; To examine the factors responsible for increasing consumption of alcohol among youths, identify family related factor, to determine socio-economic factors and to ascertain socio-cultural factors responsible for increasing consumption of alcohol among youths in the peri-urban areas of Kampala. The study used a descriptive cross-sectional study utilizing in-depth person interviews as well as documentary review and key informant interviews were used to collect data, respondents were selected purposively and sample size determined following the principle of data saturation. Individual face to face in-depth interviews were conducted with 40 youths, and 5 key informants. Data were analyzed and presented into themes in chapter four. Consequently, the study found out that factors such a family background, domestic violence, parental relationships, parental behaviors, age, sex, peer pressure, illiteracy, affordability/ cost of alcohol, poverty and unemployment among others had a negative impact on alcohol consumption among youths. Putting in place strict laws, overtaking alcoholic beverages and massive youths sensitization about dangers of alcohol were some of the possible strategies adopted to reduce youths alcoholism. The study concluded that parents should pay attention to their children/youths, give them enough care and time, have control over them and more so showing them love instead of hatred as one way of promoting and showing parental love and responsibilities and therefore when all these are done, youths may find or get limited to go to bars due to the fact that they are being given a lot of concern from their parents. The study recommended that the government and other stakeholders to embark on massive sensitization of the youth about the dangers of alcohol, strengthen laws on alcohol and school administrators can work together with other lock communities around schools in order to ensure that alcohol is not sold and sewed to students especially secondary and primary schools.en_US
