dc.description.abstractThis research examined the factors affecting retirees experience in Uganda taking a case study of Bamunanika Sub County in Luwero District. The study was carried with the specific objectives to determine the social factors affecting retiree experience, to determine the economic factors affecting retiree’s experience, to establish the relationship between social welfare and retirees experience and to establish the relationship between economic welfare and retirees experience in Luwero District. The study adopted a cross – sectional design with a sample of size of 80 respondents comprising of retirees selected from the six parishes who were selected using stratified sampling technique and analysis was done using SPSS at Univariate, Bivariate level and multivariate level. The study revealed that the social factors affecting retirees experience in Luwero District included; healthy conditions, education level, age, food and nutrition, housing and health insurance. The economic factors affecting retirees experience in Luwero District included; social security retirement and pension benefits, output / production, income levels, personal financial situation, leisure time, financial satisfaction and financial assets. Generally the was significant relationship between social welfare and retiree’s experience in Luwero District in that the study revealed that there was a significant relationship between the following social variables and retiree’s experience ability to afford child care create a good retirement environment and retiree experience (χ2 =4.938, P=0.085), decent housing influences my experience as a retiree (χ2 =1.073, P=0.585) but there was significant evidence of a relationship between my health conditions and retiree experience (χ2 =10.129, P=0.008) there was significant evidence of a relationship between age greatly impacting on experience after retirement and retiree experience (χ2 =8.139, P=0.020). There was significant evidence of a relationship between my education level and retiree experience (χ2 =10.2955, P=0.016). There was significant evidence of a relationship between gender influencing experience after retirement and retiree experience (χ2 =4.606, P=0.100). There is significant evidence of a relationship between having access to health insurance and retiree experience (χ2 =5.574, P=0.032). There was significant evidence of a relationship between economic factors such as income levels and retiree’s experience in Luwero District (χ2 =34.7142, P=0.000), but there was no significant evidence of a relationship between life expectancy and retiree experience (χ2 =24.6277, P=0.357). At multivariate level, three independent variables were significant which included I feel fairly satisfied with my retirement because of my financial assets, my personal financial situation has much to do with my experience and I have access to health insurance which has shaped good retirement experience. Their odds ratios are 1.09, 1.18, and 1.90 respectively. This indicates that for those who feel fairly satisfied with their retirement because of their financial assets, each 1 unit increase is associated with a 1.09 times greater likelihood of having bad experience after retirement. The researcher concluded that healthy conditions, education level, age, food and nutrition, housing and health insurance are the social factors affecting retiree experience in Luwero District. The economic factors affecting retirees experience in Luwero District included social security, retirement and pension benefits, output / production, income levels, personal financial situation, leisure time, financial satisfaction and financial assets and that there was significant relationship between social and economic welfare and retiree’s experience. The researcher recommended that Ugandans should save as much as possible during the years when they are working so as to cater for their expenses after retiring from work, People should endeavor to attain higher levels of education to have a good experience after retirement, and government should embark to a sensitization campaign on the benefits preparation for retirement Policies and laws should be enacted by the Ugandan Parliament to compel all Ugandan in both the formal and informal sector to save for retirement.en_US
