The study examines reasons why students at the Department of Performing Arts Makerere university drop out. The research employed a mixed methods research designs; with both qualitative and quantitative approach with 64 respondents. Performing arts is a form on creative activity that are performed in front of an audience, such as drama, music, and dance, the researcher picked interest to carry out this sturdy at the department of performing arts Makerere university, school of performing arts and liberal subjects, under college of social sciences and humanities. The findings showed that students drop out is influenced by their attitude towards performing arts and this includes, parents attitude towards performing arts ,most students have an attitude that performing arts are the simplest courses at the university therefore they enroll for courses like music, drama and film thinking that the three year journey will be the simplest at Makerere university not understanding that these courses need a lot of concentration and attention because they are both practical courses and theoretical as well, hence they end up dropping out when they find that the course is very serious . On the other hand parents have a bad attitude towards their children who enrol for performing arts courses ,there has always been big fights between parents and students regarding the choice of courses at the university, parents tend to wish students to become lawyers, doctors, pilots ,and so on and so forth not understanding what it takes for a student to make his or her own choice in education, sometimes parents tell their students how they cannot pay even a single coin for courses like music, dance or drama .therefore, if a student is admitted at Makerere for performing arts he or she end up dropping out due to lack of support and total discouragement by the parents. Others drop out or do not complete because of lack of facilitation, lack of equipment’s like laptops and mobile phones, failure to pay tuition in time, accumulating retakes in different course units, other interests for example students end up being employed by different businesses around the town and they lose focus by concentrating on those par time or fulltime jobs hence end up dropping out of school.en_US
